The Youth Assembly merupakan suatu program yang membahas mengenai berbagai masalah dan solusi dari isu-isu dunia. Dengan fokus pada empat topik utama, yaitu youth, global health, global citizenship, dan technology and inclusion, platform ini diselenggarakan oleh AFS Intercultural Program dengan tujuan melatih kompetensi global dan keterampilan berpikir kritis serta menumbuhkan visi-visi dan ide-ide untuk menciptakan masa depan yang lebih baik. Dihadiri oleh berbagai pemuda pemudi dari 80 negara di berbagai belahan dunia acara ini diselenggarakan selama tiga hari di New York City dengan tema “Dare to Reshape the World”.
Bertepatan dengan International Youth Day, pada hari pertama para delegasi diundang untuk merayakannya serta menghadiri pembukaan dari acara The Youth Assembly di United Nation Headquarters. Diawali dengan pembukaan dari CEO dan Presiden AFS Intercultural Program, Mr. Daniel Obst, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan sambutan dari Secretary General of the United Nations for the International Day of Youth, Mr. António Guterres, serta panel dengan topik International Youth Day.
Hari kedua diisi dengan rangkaian panel atau talkshow dan juga workshop. Dalam setiap sesinya, delegasi dapat memilih untuk bergabung dalam suatu talkshow atau workshop dengan topik yang sesuai dengan ketertarikan dan minatnya. Pada hari kedua ini, terdapat dua sesi talkshow dan juga dua sesi workshop. Salah satu topik yang diangkat pada diskusi tersebut adalah “How can we achieve equitable access to healthcare and prevent non-communicable diseases?”. Topik ini diberikan oleh para pembicara yang menarik dan juga ahli di bidangnya, yaitu Christie Bloomquist, Vice President of US Corporate and Government Affairs AstraZeneca, Ishu Kataria, Senior Public Health Researcher of Center for Global Noncommunicable Diseases RTI International, dan juga Risa Turetsky, Vice President for North American Region, International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH). Terdapat juga workshop dengan topik “Skills for Communicating with the World”. Pada sesi ini para delegasi dapat menerapkan hands-on learning dengan berlatih dan juga berdiskusi dengan delegasi dalam kelompok masing-masing.
Tidak jauh berbeda dengan hari kedua, hari ketiga secara umum juga berisi talkshow dan workshop. Hanya saja pada rangkaian terakhir ini para delegasi juga turut hadir dalam agenda Culture Fest, dimana setiap delegasi dapat mempresentasikan secara langsung budaya dari masing-masing negara mereka. Pada rangkaian terakhir ini, delegasi juga diundang untuk hadir dalam upacara penutup dimana pada agenda ini akan diberikan penghargaan bagi delegasi-delegasi terbaik dan juga bagi delegasi dengan proyek memukau yang berkaitan dengan Sustainable Development Goals.
The Youth Assembly is a program aiming to discuss the latest word issues related to four main topics, such as: youth, global health, global citizenship and technology and inclusion. This program was held by the AFS Intercultural Program. The main purpose of this assembly is to sharpen critical thinking skills, challenge global competition, and to stimulate visions and ideas beneficial for a better future. Convened in New York City, this years’ theme was “Dare to Reshape the World” and it was attended by youths from 80 countries.
In conjunction with International Youth Day, the first day of the assembly was held in the United Nations Headquarters. The CEO and President of AFS Intercultural Program, Mr Daniel Obst, officially opened the program then he was followed by the Secretary General of the United nations for the International Day of Youth, Mr. António Guterres, and panelliest related to International Youth Day.
The second day was filled with panel discussions, two talk shows, and two workshops. In every session, delegates can freely assign themselves to the topic they have interest in. One of the topics that was raised on the panel discussion was “How can we achieve equitable access to healthcare and prevent non-communicable disease”. The topic was delivered by experts such as hristie Bloomquist, Vice President of US Corporate and Government Affairs AstraZeneca, Ishu Kataria, Senior Public Health Researcher of Center for Global Noncommunicable Diseases RTI International, dan juga Risa Turetsky, Vice President for North American Region, International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH). There were also workshops with the topic of “Skills for Communicating with the World” where delegates can do hands-on learning with each other.
Just like the second day, the third day was generally also filled with talk shows and workshops. At the end of the day delegates were invited to attend Culture Fest, where delegates have to represent the culture of one's country. By the end of Culture Fest, the closing ceremony was held, and delegates with the best performance and outstanding project related to Sustainable Development Goals were given recognition and merit.
