Spreading Compassion Across the Banda Islands: FK UB Delegates Take
Action at Indonesian Gives Back 2026
BANDA NEIRA — The commitment to community service was once again demonstrated by medical students through the Indonesian Gives Back (IGB) 2026 program, initiated by the Indonesian Medical Student Senate Association (ISMKI) Region 4 in collaboration with the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pattimura (BEM FK UNPATTI). Held in the Banda Islands, Maluku, the program aimed to expand access to basic healthcare services, provide integrated preventive health education, and foster greater social awareness among future physicians regarding the health challenges faced by island communities. Representing the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FK UB), six delegates took part in this national-scale initiative: Fitri Ramadani, Dayang Shakila Moreen Odelia, Kalis Peparap Quaisya, Izaq Aldi Rahmansyah, Muhammad Ridwan Gondewa Arsyadidjaja, and Awanata Kusuma Putra Budaya.
The program officially began in Ambon, where all delegates and committee members gathered at FK UNPATTI for a technical briefing and operational coordination before departing from Yos Sudarso Port for Banda Neira by sea. On the second day, the volunteers immediately engaged in the core social service activities, including general health examinations and mass circumcision services for local residents. Each delegate actively contributed to the medical service process, patient assistance, and health education while upholding medical ethics and respecting the privacy of the community.
Entering the third day, the series of activities continued with direct door-to-door outreach to residents of Lonthoir Island, providing health screenings and education on clean and healthy living practices. The activities were then followed by a fun-filled session with all delegates. This moment of togetherness was enriched by visits to the historic Pohon Sejuta Umat, an
exploration of the exotic Sjahrir Island (Pisang Island), and a snorkeling session to admire the breathtaking underwater beauty of the Banda Islands. These experiences further strengthened the bonds of friendship among the volunteers after completing the medical service activities in the field. On the fourth day, the entire community service program came to a close with a program evaluation, the official closing of the social service activities, and a
cross-volunteer bonding session in Banda Neira.
Participation in IGB 2026 served not only as an opportunity for the delegates to apply their clinical knowledge in a remote and underserved setting, but also as a valuable experience in strengthening social integration and solidarity among medical students from across Indonesia. Through four days of meaningful service in the Banda Islands, the delegates hope that their contributions will create a lasting impact on community well-being while reaffirming the strategic role of the younger generation of medical professionals in supporting equitable access to healthcare across Indonesia.
